Attract Graduates Today

Attracting recent graduates may be a challenge for your organization. Maybe you're looking for the ultimate employee- with the perfect educational, occupational and extra-curricular experience? Attracting these people, the top talent, the cream of the crop, has more to do with YOU than THEM.

So, how is your organization going to attract recent graduates?

The same way you look for value in potential employee's, those same people look for value in your organization. Top talent, when evaluating your organization and the employment opportunity, before deciding to apply, consider:

  • Company brand, most times as a whole, or as a part (the department/team they'll be working with/in)
  • Corporate stability
  • Financial incentive
  • Career growth potential (looking at both expected rate of and actual potential)
  • Developmental opportunity

Start with the end in mind. That means, when you start the hiring process, start with the end in mind. Envision your new hire, working productively, executing their tasks at an optimal performance level; providing a significant return on investment. Ask yourself, why did this person, the productive, perfect fit for both the position and organization, decided to work here? What value did our company provide them?

Recent graduates are living in a reality that has just been turned upside down. Many of them are ready to face the challenges head on, some are not. To remove the ones who are not ready to face challenges from those who are, you need to give graduates a realistic (not idealistic) view of the operations of your organization. Break the organizational insight down to their department, their team, their job. When providing this insight, the most crucial thing to do, is to relate it all back to the bigger picture, the company mission and vision. Show them, everyday, this is what you will face, these are the challenges you must be prepared to tackle... But this is why. By doing this, you not only sort out those who are ready to tackle challenges from those who are not, you also become aware of those who understand and can fully support the objectives of the organization. Isn't that most important?

Hire the RIGHT graduate and you'll have a productive graduate from day 1. To hire the right graduate, you must look within. Look within your organization. Value beckons value. Create value when presenting your employment opportunities to graduates and the value will be returned by the recruiting of the cream of the crop.
